AMERICAN SAMOA

Hand stitched black cloth body with stuffed legs, embroiderd face, tapa cloth pointed hat, shell necklace, tapa cloth dress and natural grass skirt. Tapa cloth is made by soaking the bark of mulberry trees until soft, then beaten into the shape of the garment desired

Swagman doll from Australia early 60's. This doll represents an honest itenerant worker who in the late 1880's and again during the 1930's depression often had to walk vast distances to get to work. The swagman was made famous by the austrailian national song "Waltzing Matilda" by Banjo Paterson

Perth

Not really a national doll but i had a good laugh with this one. A silly souvenir from Perth

Swagman- Unemployed men carry the traditional swag travelled by foot from farm to farm to earn a living by strong temporary jobs, particulary during the depressions of the 1890's and 1930's. Corks danngling from his hat keep the flies away. A rolled up blanket is on his back. 

Aboriginal Child

This doll was made as merchandise inspired bu the work of artist and illustrator  Brownie  Downing(1824-1995). Its a doll made of stockinette holding a kangaroo, representing an aboriginal child. Aboriginals aree the indegenous people of Australia. From Mrs Anny Fraser... Bindego, Victoria, Australia - 16th of march 1971 is in handwrriting under her stand

The following two dolls are a matching pair of aboriginal, the indigenous people of Australia. The female is holding a boomerang used for hunting

Doll with tool and plate filled with grains of gold. He is a gold digger from the state of Victoria in south east Australia. There have been several gold rushes in the area since the 1850's

EASTER ISLAND ( Chile) 

Not really a doll but this is probably the closest thing i'll ever find from this remote island. Easter isl;and is known for the moai statues seen throughout all the island. Therse sculptures were built by the natives of this island also known as the Rapa Nui.  

FIJI

Hard plastic costume dolls. Traditional lady and fiji police officer. The man has a patch on his arm that reads Fiji. I believe they are from the late 50's, early 60's

FRENCH POLYNESIA ( Tahiti )

Vintage grass doll from Tahiti. The tag reads Sonabo Tahiti

GUAM

Plastic doll in Maori cosume. This doll is from the 60's

This doll is a serenata doll from Guam. Serenata means "evening music" and she stems from the Charmoru people. According to a legend, a massive fish was gradually eating away at the island from both sides. Although the ancient chamoru had magical abilities, the huge creature aluded them. When the men were unsuccessful in hunting it down, the women used their hair to weave a net, which grew larger as they sang. The singing enchanted the fish, and lured it into the giant net. This doll wears this net to catch creative waves, This doll is hand made of driftwood, titanium, rainbow quartz as well as luxury fabrics and silk

HAWAII (U.S.A.)

Very common Hawaiian tourist doll, she's a dashboard doll. She was brought back for me in 2001 or 2002

This is a palm doll from New Caledonia. She was made in 1944

A pair of Bo Jo Bo wishing dolls made in San Roque, a small village in Saipan

This is an original NETTA doll representing a papua new guinean highlander. She was bought in Papua New Guinea in 1970. She has beautifully painted features and rooted dark hair

Hand crafted on the Pitcairn islands is this 10 inch wooden doll, this remote island only has 49 residents. A very rare find!

Plastic doll from the early 80's. Her skirt is made of fibre. She has Vanuatu painted on her fore head
